‘Their songs are often quiet and serious, their characters full of life yet cast out by a cruel and rapacious human society, their presentation fragile yet unafraid of old-fashioned beauty. The tale of the band’s rise is so unusual that it’s difficult to separate the music from the myth, like a used book you treasure as much for the smell of the paper and the scrawls in the margins as the words on the page.
